Profiling New Zealand’s top earner: Agriculture
New Zealand is the top exporter for beef, dairy and sheep but is also a major provider of wool, seafood and fruit and vegetables. New Zealand grown produce and animal products are exported to over 100 countries and feed an estimated 40 million people per month. Agriculture earns New Zealand over 50% of its GDP and accounts for hundreds of thousands of jobs nationwide.
However, Agriculture is now much bigger than just a primary industry and many of New Zealand’s top agriculture businesses are now in factor in the tertiary sector of the economy.
