New Skilled residence pathways – Policy released

Immigration instructions now available

Immigration New Zealand has finally released policy for the new residence pathways available to migrants being offered a role in an occupation on the "Green List" or at twice the New Zealand median wage.

The long-awaited release provides details about the requirements under each category. All categories have an age limit of 55 years inclusive, require a job from an Accredited Employer, and have English requirements.

Skilled Residence: 3 pathways

Green List occupations: Straight to Residence

This opens 5 September 2022.

If you secure a role from an Accredited Employer in one of the Tier 1 occupations of the "Green List, you may be eligible to apply for fast-track residence.

Certain occupations require that you meet a certain threshold in terms of qualification, or work experience, or salary.

Green List occupations: Work to residence

If you secure a role from an Accredited Employer in one of the Tier 2 occupations of the "Green List, you may be eligible to apply for residence after 2 years working in this role, in New Zealand. Your experience may be counted from 29 September 2021.

Certain occupations require that you meet a certain threshold in terms of qualification, or work experience, or salary.

You may also be eligible to seek residence under the Skilled Migrant Category, due to reopen late 2022.

Highly paid roles: Work to residence

If you secure a role from an Accredited Employer and are paid at or above twice the median wage, you may be eligible to apply for residence after 2 years working in this role on that salary, in New Zealand. Your experience may be counted from 29 September 2021.

You may also be eligible to seek residence under the Skilled Migrant Category, due to reopen late 2022.

How about everyone else?

People whose role does not feature on these lists may still be eligible to apply under the Skilled Migrant Category.
